Walla Walla Vintners

Feautred Wines

Walla Walla is one of the premiere grape growing regions in the state of Washington. Walla Walla Vintners is famous for blended red wines. I can safely say that all the wines produced by this winery are great! However, I can also tell you that each year the wines and fruit sources just keep getting better and better. We will be adding many other features as time goes on with this winery, but for now enjoy a number of their best!

Walla Walla Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon
This winery is known for blending different grapes and making some of the best “big” reds from Washington State. This wine is a blend of 5 different vineyards, a blend of 6% Cab Franc, 6% Merlot and 88% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is huge and will age for many years, unless it's in my cellar, then I give it months!

2003 Cordon Grove Vineyard Cuvee
Cuvee means “blend” did I mention this winery is know for blending? I thought so! I have a few bottles of this wine, and drink one every few months, just to see how the wine is aging. And what do you know, each bottle continues to get better and better, maybe I should have got two cases! The Cordon Grove Vineyard is located in Prosser, Washington and this wine features a blend of 53% Merlot and 42% Cab Franc with a splash of Malbec from Pepper Bridge. With a hint of Vanilla (American oak), this wine has one of the best finishes of a red wine I can recall. This is a wine that also speaks very loudly of what the future brings from this winery. A great, huge red blend that will age and is very good from the moment they are made. Put a couple bottles away, and forget about them.

Columbia Valley Merlot
Beware! I love this wine! Every time I open a bottle, it's the same great fruit and finish. This one has 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot from Cold Creek Vineyard and the rest 88% Merlot from Spring Creek Vineyard. This is a perfect food wine. I recently featured this wine with Chef Jeremy and Tim O'Brien at Salty's on Alki, resulting in its addition to Salty's on Alki's award winning wine list. Enjoy!

Columbia Valley Cab Franc
Okay! Stop right here and make note! This is a wine to try and then go buy a case or two. People either love Cab Franc or hate it. This is always a blending grape, and rarely bottled by itself. A number of diverse, mid palate flavors that you love in other wines is in fact Cab Franc blended in. Do yourself a favor and try a bottle and you will discover a great wine and some of the favors that you love about red blended wines. I'm going to stop right here and open a bottle and “FEEEEEEDDoc!” First let's take a short trip to the winery and see what Gordie has to say about Cab Franc. Cheers!

Walla Walla Vintners Sangiovese
This is the most requested wine from Walla Walla Vintners, and with good reason. This wine is blended with 5% Malbec and 5% Syrah, which makes it a perfect match for pasta, pizza, and more pasta with a veal chop. This is a grape made famous in Italy and brought here many years ago. Recently it has become a very popular wine and grape, mainly because the Sangioveses from Washington and California are very different from the old world versions. Both are great and should be enjoyed with many different dishes! Listen as Gordie will fills us in on this wine.
