Kestrel Winery 2004 Chardonnay
This is one of the greatest wineries in the world. This chardonnay is a secret that's not a secret any more. This wine sells out very quickly so go to their website or call the winery to make plans to get a case of this wine. This wine comes from the oldest Chardonnay vines in Washington State. Yields are low and the wine is harvested at 2 to 2.75 tons per acre. Kestrel Estate control's the fruit from beginning to finish and the results are in the bottle. Let me introduce you to Flint Nelson, wine maker for Kestrel wine cellars.

Kestrel Winery 2004 Viognier
We are very lucky in Washington State in recent vintages, 2004 in Washington State was nothing short of awesome! Again the fruit source all estate, and the wine very special. I really enjoy Flint's wines and with good reason. Kestrel is a red wine house, no question about. BUT! Flint makes amazing white wines. I think I will let him speak for himself. Cheers!

Kestrel Winery 2003 Co-Ferment Syrah
This is a 2003 is red wine that is blended with a white wine. AHHH?? Okay, this is a French technique and has been done for many, many years with great success. Syrah is a big, bold red wine, but when you add Viognier it takes on the floral qualities of a Viognier. This wine is part of the reserve line of wines from Kestrel and the blending here is perfect! This wine shows Washington State as a force in the production of Syrah.

2003 Kestrel Winery Merlot
Kestrel and Flint Nelson do three different Merlots, a Reserve Line, this Merlot, and a Late Harvest Merlot. Late Harvest Merlot, WOW! We will tell you about that another time. The Merlot here is a wine from their Kestrel View Vineyard. This 2003 Merlot is a big, full-bodied, deeply colored wine with favors of blueberries, raspberries, and dark cherries. I think it's time for a bottle RIGHT NOW! BREAK!

Kestrel Winery Lady in Red
The 4th edition of Lady in Red is now in stores, and this blend is a flagship wine from this winery. Each bottle is a beautiful treasure; you will keep the bottle long after drinking the wine. The wine is special and the bottle design brings a new story with each vintage. Flint will fill you in further.

Kestrel Winery Rapture Red
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Savignon, Merlot and maybe another grape or two. Flint Nelson makes different blends with every vintage. This wine is a great example of the great ablility of this wine maker and serves as a prime example of what is possible from this region. The early vintages of this wine were good, no question about that.

I have been working with Kestrel wines for about two years. Flint Nelson, the wine maker, has been in the wine business for many years before coming to Kestrel. I believe him to be one of the up and coming super stars in the Washington wine industry. Since starting to make the wines at Kestrel, he has a track record of making great wines, and many of them. I have said it before, and I will say it again, Kestrel is a red wine house, but their white wines are some of my favorites too. Their estate vineyard produces old vine fruit, not found anywhere else in Washington State.
                                               Enjoy!

More on Kestrel Winery

Kestrel Winery 2004 Chardonnay Ice Wine
2004 was one of the best vintages in recent history for Washington State. This ice wine is a wine that should be on your list. Kestrel left prime chardonnay grapes in the vineyard in hopes of making a wine like this, and they were handsomely rewarded. Listen as Flint tells us of the battle of making ice wines, and gives us some insite into the future of ice wines from Kestrel.

Kestrel Winery 2005 Voignier
This is my third vintage of Voignier from Kestrel. The climate of Washington State is perfect for this grape. This wine is floral and has lemon and lime overtones, which keep your interest and keep you coming back for another glass. This is due for release in May of 2007.
