Hawley Wines Pinot Noir
John Hawley is truly blessed by a number of factors. One of them is location. Healdsburg in Sonoma County is one of the most diverse wine growing regions in the world. John makes the most of what the region has to offer and it shows in his wine, including this Pinot Noir from Russian River. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are readily grown here and John does both. His Pinot is made in heavily toasted French barrels, adding to the beautiful aromas and perfect example of the grape. As I say in the show, “you talk so I can eat," and drink another glass of this world class Pinot Noir.

Hawley Wines Merlot
Hawley Wines has one of the top ten Merlots made on this planet! John Hawley has the passion, the location and love of the grape itself. This all comes together in this wine. This fruit and wine come from the winery John has built just outside of Healdsburg, California on Bradford Mountain. This wine is special not only in the wine-making world, but to the true greatness that is Merlot.

John Hawley and I met a number of years ago. Hawley Wines is located in the great Sonoma town of Healdsburg, California. One of the most diverse wine regions in the world. John Hawley has a great wine-making history, including stops at Kendall-Jackson and Clos Du Bois. Both wineries are huge Sonoma wine making facilities, producing 100,000's even million cases every year. John now makes small lot, hands on wines, with the help of his two sons. With a brand new winery, I see a future that holds many great wines and hopefully beer also. Last summer I stopped by the winery in 100 degree heat and did features with the Hawley family. After the wine features we had a sample of a couple beers made by Paul Hawley, which turned out to be some of the best beer I have had in recent times. I'll let you know more about that, as time goes on.

Hawley Wines Viognier
If you have ever had a Viognier from Hawley you will probably agree with me this is one of my favorite wines. If you haven't had the pleasure, now is the time. John's website will tell you the history of this grape, I will tell you that everyone I have tasted this wine with instantly becomes a fan of Viognier. Tropical fruit, French oak and floral perfume that also reminds me of French Syrahs that are co-fermented with Viognier. Let's listen to John Hawley tell us about this food friendly wine.

Hawley Wines Chardonnay
John's Chardonnay is from Russian River, just outside of Santa Rosa in Sonoma county. A great nose to this wine and a very special hint of honey. The pureness of the wine's delicate aromas keep me coming back for more year after year.

Hawley Wines Zinfandel and Late Harvest Zinfandel
Just above here we discussed driving north in Sonoma County and finding Healdsburg,Ca. Lets keep going and we will run right into the famous Dry Creek region of Sonoma County famous for the grape Zinfandel, and many more. John has always searched out great vineyard sources, and has many years of relationships with may great grape growers in this region. This is fast becoming another favorite of mine. And when you are ready, try the Late Harvest Zinfandel. Oh, when you visit the winery.....don't ask about the beer...that way I can... enjoy our time in wine country and say hello when you get there.

Hawley Wines Cabernet Sauvignon
The Russian River area of Sonoma County is along the Pacific Coast and famous for great Pinot noir and Chardonnay. About 20 minutes north of there is Healdsburg an area known for many great wineries, this area is the home of Hawley wines and a great Cabernet Sauvignon. John can fill us in more, just after he opens this huge beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon from Hawley wines. Cheers!

More on Hawley Wines

Pinot Noir 2005
When I stopped by the winery to see John Hawley and his sons recently, I discovered two new releases. The 2005 Pinot Noir looks and tastes like the best Pinot from John Hawley. The smile on John's face was enough to convince me! I have always thought that John's Pinots were great, although very small in numbers. I also walked away with a few bottles of great beer from Paul Hawley's new brewing project. It's true, it does take a lot of beer to make wine.

Voignier 2006
When I arrived at the winery, John was filtering his new Voignier and in this feature he explains to us that process. The wine was very cold as we sampled it from the tank, but 15 minutes later this great Hawley Voignier started to open up with mango and pineapple over tones. The new Voignier is tropical fruit in a glass! Don't miss this wine!
